STEPS BY THE ARROW
Steps.
An action of moving one foot in front of the other when walking or running.
My definition of it is figurative. It's the method one uses to reach his destination, goal or success.
I was asked to speak at a function once and the topic was on leadership. Clever me. I got too busy with work and didn't prepare for it.
It was time for me to address the future leaders. How do I start, what do I say.....
The brilliant me took over:
There was once a man who trained a monkey to do tricks in the marketplace. That's the way they earned their sustenance. One afternoon after a performance the master rested under a tree and the monkey watched over him from a branch. A fly continued to disturb the master as he tried to rest. The monkey decided to do something about it. He got down and tried to chase the fly away. The fly landed on his master’s throat. The monkey drew his master’s sword and he aimed.... chop....
Moral of the story: Even if you have a good intention. The way you go about getting the desired result is most important.
That was my first step to two things.
1. I took my first step.
2. I was invited to speak at more conferences
When I paused I could hear the silence. The audience was ready for more.
Step 1 achieved.
I kept on the topic of good intentions and thought that goes into ensuring the goal is reached through.
I paused after about 5 minutes, again I could hear the silence. I could see the interest.
When I concluded, the applause said you are ready for the next step of a career in educating and training people.

ReplyDeleteI love the concept and flow you've created for this vlog. The way you draw from personal experience, weaving in a story and then connecting it to the figurative meaning of "steps," is engaging and powerful.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
