forever summer part 2
Unwind on Hyperdrive
It’s two months to home
shores, two months to the heart of my permanent holidays. Sixty days, a blink,
and a heartbeat away, but right now, it feels like a millennium. It’s time to
lean into the Cape, to teach my body how to unwind; how to stop humming with
deadlines and start humming with a zest for life.
But how do you
unplug when you are set on hyperdrive?
Think Watermelon.
Think of the sound
of puca shells clinking at your wrist; the bright red of hibiscus tucked behind
your ear. Think of the salt spray curling your hair and bronzing your skin. I
can already smell the smoke of a braai and taste the sharp fizz of a sherbet sucker
on my tongue. The low thrum of the campfire, the familiar faces dancing in the
shadows as tall tales are told, the gentle waves nipping at my ankles, his hand
on warm thighs...
Think long, hot
days... and even longer, hotter nights.
Ahhhhhh... almost
there.
To put time into
overdrive, I’ll make myself a pitcher of this sweet elixir:
Watermelon Smoothie
- 1/4 litre lemon, full-fat yogurt
- 3 cups cubed, seeded watermelon
- 1 punnet fresh strawberries,
cleaned and hulled
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 3 ice cubes
In a blender or food
processor, combine yogurt, watermelon, a handful of strawberries, honey, and
ice cubes. Process until smooth and frothy. Serve in tall glasses with a straw.
Makes 4 servings.
Sitting on my
balcony in Brunei at sunset while the skies put on a show, smoothie in hand,
watching the sun set... It begins to feel a lot like the carefree days of a
Cape Town summer.
Programming complete... Powering down! Set to Sleep Mode and sweet dreams of home.
