The Things We Do (By GingeredZ & I)

In the name of greys, we cover them religiously: box dye, salon dye, even root spray that lasts exactly until your next shampoo. We poke, guasha, and tone our faces with creams to give us a resemblance of the years gone by. We angle the bathroom mirror like detectives searching for evidence of fine lines, sipping collagen and green juice, supplementing and taping, hydrating and healing from our traumas so we can glow from the inside...

She once wisely said, “Getting older is supposed to mean wisdom, grace, and a mysterious air of knowing better. Instead, it means standing in the Guardian debating between ‘Chestnut Brown’ and ‘Midnight Espresso.’ It means a counter full of creams and potions promising miracles and a face roller that looks suspiciously like a medieval torture device.”

The things we do, all in the name of staying timeless…

She said...

Age gracefully... but act authentically and be loud and share your wisdom even if the younger generation don’t wanna hear it.

She said...

Laugh along to the chats about Botox, but do casually ask for a good doctor’s number, you know, for research.

She said...

That chin hair you felt on your way to work, has got to go...even if it is so minute it requires your glasses and the magnifying mirror to get the damn thing out.

She said... as she unwillingly peered in the mirror...

Mirrors takes guts... it takes a whole lot of self-love to be able to accept what looks back at you... we r our own worst critics.

She said...

I don't look I bypass the figure.... my guts doesn’t extend that far.

She said ...

Go easy on yourself cause even rolling out of bed is a blessing - the body has been thru that many years of moving wants to slow down but what if we give in to the slowness...

She said

It's ok to treat others better than they treat you ... my set of love is different to yours and if we see everything as a threat then everything becomes a problem....

She said

Learn from those lessons. Accept. Swallow. Move on.

Some situations when I revisit them make me want to gag and hide ... I can't i just can't!

She said...

Every single sunrise came thru the darkest hour and if u r guided by faith, hope and the will ... it's going to be ....

You said...

Living in shadows or in fear of being unworthy isn't a way to live ... we have days.

Dont let one situation define you.  As a human -  whatever ur pronoun is or however you identify as - let the narrative of change be yours. SIMPLE NOT but  you on your way ...  that road awaits...

  3. Your piece reflects is heartfelt, witty, and powerful. It resonates as a collective reflection on aging while also carving space for your personal voice. what I learned from you Z, facing mirrors with courage, going easy on oneself, loving differently, learning from painful lessons, and keeping faith through dark hours.

    Life happens... live

The piece closes on a note of empowerment: “Darling, we don’t age, we are vintage.” LOVE IT.

Im going to learn to accept my curves and embrace what i look like now.

  7. Time may leave its mark, but so does our spirit. With each passing year, we bloom in new and powerful ways.
We are not aging—we are unfolding.

  8. And at the end of the day, all we have is what has passed yesterday, what we are currently experiencing today and a hope of tomorrow. Live life the way you want it not the way "people" want you to. Enjoy but don't be reckless. And let's try again tomorrow, if today didn't go as planned. B. I. G. ❤️

LIFE IS SHORT, YOU MIGHT AS WELL LIVE IT WITH GREAT LOOKING HAIR , COS EVEN THOUGH LIFE MAY NOT BE PERFECT, MAKE SURE YOUR HAIR COLOR IS..........

I AM A CHAMPION FOR INNER BEAUTY BUT A LITTLE MASCARA NEVER HURTS, NEITHER DOES A TOUCH OF BLUSH, OR MAYBE A SMIDGEN OF EYE SHADOW AND SOME TONER. DON'T FORGET THE LIP LINER AND SOME ROUGE, JUST TO ADD SOME OUTER BEAUTY TOO.

WHAT HAPPEBS WHEN YOU HAVE NO MAKEUP.

    YOU HAVE THIS NATURAL RADIANCE.

ITS BEAUTY AT ITS PUREST, NATURALLY STUNNING.
WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET.

    UNFILTERED, RAW, FAB BEAUTY.

SHOWING YOUR TRUE COLOURS, SO TO SPEAK.

FLAUNTING WHAT YOU GOT, INSTEAD OF WHAT YOU NOT.

YOU UNKEASH YOUR NATURAL BEAUTY .

    BEAUTIFULLY YOU........
    AU NATURELLE.

AS MENTION EARLIER, JUST LITTLE BIT WOULDNT KILL YOU.

LOOK YOUR BEST , NO HARM IN THAT

  13. We age gracefully, wisdom is there so are the aches and pains. We have learnt to love ourselves and that's what makes everyday a little easier to handle. You truely have a way with words!
